  1. July Recap:

During July, Freeride had two great on-snow opportunities for athletes!

Mt Hood (Windells):

All smiles from the crew!

Mt. Hood! The most legendary summer ski destination in North America! JHSC Freeride returned for the 4th season running to experience a week of shred on the Palmer Snowfield and at Windells camp. As a training destination, the facilities at Timberline’s Freestyle Training Center are world class, with quick laps on surface lifts, it’s easy to get plenty of hits in a day, and to progress from smaller to larger features.

The facility here has something for everyone. From size S to size XL, beginners and professionals alike descend on Hood each July from around the world.

This year we sent 15 athletes and myself, Adrian Ballard and Matt Newton as coaches.

“Our annual trip to Mt Hood was another great success. The Freeride Program brought 15 athletes to Windells camp for a week of skiing, skateboarding, trampolines & airbags. We were able to access Wy’east Academy’s new airbag. It is the biggest in North America and was a great opportunity for athletes to work on new double flips. With five days of sunshine, the kids were able to work on new tricks and build confidence on bigger features. We are already looking forward to next summer!”

Andes Freeride Camp:

Chile - Po!

Just a week after Mt. Hood, it was time to pack bags again! This time all the way to South America. With opposite seasons, late July is late January. This means cold mid-winter snow, awesome terrain and “buenas ondas” (meaning: good vibes). Each season, Freeriders from all over the world meet in the town of Farellones, Chile for Chilean Freeride week at El Colorado Ski Area.

JHSC Freeride teamed up with the IFSA Northern Region to offer a trip-of-a-lifetime for our U19 and PG athletes. The competitions in Chile are also sanctioned by the IFSA, meaning points accrued there translate to seeding for the North American circuit. This, combined with amazing terrain for training, and an amazing cultural experience, make Andes Freeride Week one to keep in mind for next season.

Montana athletes Maddi and Kennedy love the Plaza de Armas!

The setup is similar to Salt Lake City, with quick access from the city, to the second highest mountain range on Earth. The scale of the terrain is hard to comprehend until you’re there. The friends and memories made on trips like this will certainly last a lifetime. We can’t wait to do it all over again next year!

3) Carving the Future Skate Events:

Our Friends at carving the future are bringing some great Skate events to our community this summer! The next stop is coming up this weekend in Driggs, ID on 8/24, followed by the season finale here in Jackson on 9/7.

Looking Ahead:

We'll be starting back up with fall Drylands and Axis classes the week of 9/29. Enjoy the end of summer, it'll be winter before we know it!

That’s all folks, see you next month - Collin
