Nordic Team Award Winners

April has been a very quiet month for the Nordic Program, as is traditional this time of year.  This is the month where we rest and take time to recover after a long ski season and rebuild for the months of summer training to come.  We had our clubwide awards banquet on April 24th at the Center for the Arts and we distributed our end of season awards!  All of the award winners for this year had a fantastic season and deserve a ton of recognition!

Bend Camp

We will be taking our annual pilgrimage to Bend, Oregon where we will ski, surf, run, and have great team building time.  We leave for Bend on May 17, right after the end of AP tests and before most of the senior projects.  We are taking a younger crew this year and we are super stoked to bring a totally new group of kids to one of our favorite places!  As usual, the highlight is the surf day in Pacific City, which is also one of the most exhausting trips for the athletes.  Other teams such as BSF, Park City, MBSEF, and the US Ski Team will all be in Bend at the same time which is going to lead to an amazing nordic vibe to kick off the season!

Summer Training Opportunities

Summer training is when the magic happens for athletes to make big strides towards improving their nordic fitness for the upcoming season!  We have options for everybody from Middle School age upwards to participate in summer training and get out on skis!  Details can be found below:

Juniors (rising 6th-8th graders): Monday & Wednesday 8-10 AM.  We do a mix of rollerskiing and running throughout the summer to help kids get comfortable on rollerskis and build some dryland training expertise in a low-key way.  This training will take place during the weeks that school is out (June 16- August 20). There are options to either sign up for the whole summer or to drop in for individual sessions.

Prep Team (rising 9th-10th graders): Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8-10 AM, Monday/Wednesday strength 4-6 PM.  This is our first team where the summer training schedule starts to get a bit more committing.  We do a mix of running, bounding, rollerskiing, and strength work that is a great recipe for building strength and ski-specific skills while having a ton of fun with friends.  We ask that all athletes attend at least 3 sessions/week while they are in town to maintain their connection to the team and commit to training.

Comp Team (rising 11th grade +):  M-F 8-10 AM, M/W 4-6 PM.  This is the same schedule as the Prep Team but features more hours and generally a higher training load.  We ask that comp team athletes attend at least 5 sessions/week to keep up with their age-appropriate training.
